To all my fans out there - I am finally making a blog post about our travels. Rick and I actually are planning on putting up a travel blog but we haven't had a chance to get that up and going as we have moved around quite a bit and sticky internet connections are of no help! We'll keep you posted when it goes up - its probably going to be called VUG TRAVEL BUG.
We are in Zurich right now resting up at a very hip cafe we are staying at called KAFISCHNAPS, after a great day at the Museum Fur (there should be 2 dots over the U but my keyboard here doesn't give me that option) Gestaltung where we saw the exhibit for Global Design! This exhibit was very modern and at the forefront on how our world is currently meshing together. Very interesting and a refreshing change from all the ancient art we saw in Milan, Italy and Paris, France. Although I have to say nothing beats seeing art the Louvre for me right now - that was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
If I was to pick a favorite city out of the ones I've seen so far, it would be a tough race, Paris was amazing and we over the top hosts in staying with Rick's past co-worker Phil and his wife Tiphane! Milan was very cool and the weather was nice and warm, but I think the winner for me has been Zurich.
I don't know why but I feel more comfortable in this city, even though I can't speak the language at all. Maybe its because it feel a little more like home with the weather and people speak better English here - Paris was hard for just simple communicating even though I speak a little french - I have to say they are quite arrogant - if it wasn't for our awesome new friends there I think we may have been quite lost. The food floored me though - absolutely amazing and they have amazing things to see. Italians are a whole other ball game - they say they speak English and they are more friendly, but they really don't really speak English well at all! The Swiss say they speak little and then they are just amazing. We also got to catch up with Rick's friend Sophie here and she was a great navigator to things we love! Now I'm not trying to be an English snob, it just that traveling gets interesting when communicating with others becomes very complicated. I think Rick and I are actually embarrassed by the fact that we are limited in the languages we speak. If there's anything I've learned so far from this trip its that I want to speak more languages fluently and I definitely plan on having my future kids learn more then one language before the age of 12.
So back on track, (will try to post easier reads in future) - Zurich is this awesome place of Architecture and Design - I love their efficiency here and I absolutely enjoy the abrupt sound of Swiss German! The landscape is breathtaking and fresh. Rick and I got some wicked Chocolate (of course) and we had this funny moment of sitting by the river/lake interacting with some Swans - people were feeding them and we didn't have anything to feed them so Rick would pretend to draw them closer. This one swan didn't take lightly to this and proceeded to harmlessly bite Rick's foot!
I will post more interesting stuff later, and photos will be coming! We just have to get them up on flickr first before I can embed them!
yay!!! Love the potential blog name :)
Nice, glad u made it to Zurich... and all your other various trips. Looking forward to hearing more about your travels & time in London
